Online tutors

Online tutors in Nigeria, one-to-one over video

TeachConnect matches families to qualified Nigerian teachers for live online lessons — inside Nigeria and for diaspora families abroad. You agree the subject, schedule and rate with the tutor, fund lessons before they run, and release payment lesson by lesson as you approve them. The tutor keeps 100% of the agreed rate; the service fee is charged on top.

Live, not recorded

One-to-one video lessons scheduled around your time zone.

Tutor keeps 100%

The service fee sits on top of the tutor's rate, never inside it.

Pay per approved lesson

Funds are held and released as each lesson is approved.

What you can be tutored in

Maths

One-to-one online maths lessons with Nigerian teachers, from primary number work through to secondary algebra, geometry and calculus. Lessons are live over video, so the tutor sees your child work through a problem rather than only marking the answer.

English

Live English lessons with Nigerian teachers covering comprehension, grammar, composition and oral English. Useful both for children in Nigerian schools and for diaspora children whose school English work has drifted.

Science

Physics, chemistry and biology tutoring with Nigerian teachers, one-to-one over video. Lessons work through the diagrams, calculations and definitions that carry the marks, using your child's own syllabus.

Coding

Live one-to-one coding lessons with Nigerian teachers, from block-based programming for younger children to Python and web basics for teenagers. Children build something they can show you rather than watching recorded videos.

Exam Prep

Focused exam preparation with Nigerian teachers who mark and teach these papers: WAEC, NECO, JAMB, common entrance and school placement tests. Lessons are built around past papers and the marking scheme, not general revision.

Reading

One-to-one reading lessons with Nigerian teachers for early readers and for older children whose reading has fallen behind their class. Lessons are live, so the tutor hears your child read aloud and corrects in the moment.

Homework Support

A teacher on video while your child does their homework: explaining the parts they are stuck on, checking the work, and reporting what keeps coming up. For working parents and diaspora families in a different time zone from the school day.

After-School

Regular after-school lessons with a Nigerian teacher, online and one-to-one. A standing slot each week on the subjects your child is weakest in, with the tutor following the school's scheme of work.

Nigerian Curriculum

Online lessons in the Nigerian curriculum with teachers who teach it every day. Mainly for diaspora families keeping a child aligned with Nigerian schooling, and for families planning a move back.

British Curriculum

Online tutoring in the British curriculum — Key Stages, IGCSE and A-level content — with Nigerian teachers, many from British-curriculum schools in Nigeria. Lower cost than most UK-based tutoring, taught in English over live video.

American Curriculum

Online tutoring aligned to US school work — elementary through high school, plus SAT-style practice — with Nigerian teachers, scheduled around North American evenings.

WAEC/JAMB

WAEC, NECO and JAMB preparation with Nigerian teachers who teach these syllabuses every year. Lessons run on past questions and the marking scheme, including CBT-style practice for JAMB.

Common questions

How much do online tutors in Nigeria cost?

There is no fixed price — you and the tutor agree a rate for the lessons you want, which varies by subject, level and how often you meet. TeachConnect adds a 15% service fee on top of that rate; the tutor receives 100% of what you agreed with them.

How do I find a tutor?

Send a request with the subject, your child's class and the schedule you need. It takes about two minutes and costs nothing. You are matched with tutors who teach that subject and level, and you meet them before any lesson is funded.

Are the tutors qualified teachers?

They are Nigerian teachers and graduates, including serving classroom teachers who tutor outside school hours. Profiles show subject, level and verification status so you can see who you are hiring.

Is my money safe if lessons stop?

You fund lessons up front but release payment lesson by lesson as you approve them, so unspent funds are never sitting with a tutor who has stopped teaching. If a match is not working you can change tutor.

Can tutors teach children living abroad?

Yes. Lessons are live over video, and tutors regularly schedule around evenings in the UK, US, Canada and the Gulf. Nigeria is 5-8 hours ahead of most North American time zones and 1-2 hours ahead of the UK.
